Gaikwad’s Century Powers India Past Afghanistan in Run Chase
A composed hundred and a late burst with the ball settle a high-scoring contest
India vs Afghanistan
India has won the match by 6 wickets
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten-looking authority at the crease powered India through a demanding chase as they reached 228 for four in 30.5 overs against Afghanistan. Gaikwad led the pursuit with a superb 102 from 86 balls, striking six fours and four sixes in a commanding Player of the Match performance.
Sanju Samson provided valuable support, making 50 from 38 deliveries. His six fours and two sixes kept the chase moving at a brisk rate and ensured India maintained control through the middle overs. The partnership and steady scoring put India firmly ahead of the required rate as the innings progressed.
Afghanistan had earlier posted 224 before being bowled out in 35.3 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai top-scored with 44 from 42 balls, including four fours and a six, but the innings could not build enough momentum against India’s attack.
Mohammed Siraj was India’s leading wicket-taker, claiming three wickets in 5.3 overs while conceding 24 runs. Axar Patel also took three wickets from his 10 overs, although Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan matched that haul with three wickets for 37 runs. India’s disciplined bowling and Gaikwad’s outstanding batting combined to decide the contest.
